my xbattery hen I have had her for a year, isnt looking to good, she isnt eating a lot and i had to take the water to her for her to drink, she looks a little pale round the face, I have noticed some lice on her and have dusted her, the othe chicken is fine and is eating lots, any ideas please.
I would check for Red Mite. The lice are an agrevation but should not kill birds. Pale wattles / comb are a sign of anemia and typical of red mite infestation but if they stop laying or broody can also go quite pale.
Cluck my xbattery still not looking good I have dusted her for red mites,but have not seen any in the coop, but have ordered some poultry shield and diatom just in case, she sits on her own and is very ruffled up and just pecks at the food. dont know what to do now.
Forgot to say we have had no eggs from her for over a week
Hi cluck looks a little better today, I found an egg yesterday it was a little pale, so may be she was egg bound and finely passed it. not sure but at least she is trying to eat now
I had my first orpingtons last week ( they are 9 months old ) and they have settled well .my buff took herself off to bed earley last nite today she does not want to come out when i got her out she stayed under a tree on 1 leg and is not happy seems to be very quite she stits in the pen all tucked up she is how ever drinking but thats about it i am very worried as we have already become very attached to them
She isn’t well. I would take her to the vet although I always make sure mine are wormed first (see my page on Flubenvet).
